Drummer B is a native Detroiter who’s been deep in the music and entertainment world for a long time. He’s worked with Big Proof of D12, Baatin of Slum Village, Allen Barnes of The Black Birds, Umar Bin Hassan from The Last Poets, Nick Speed, Danny Brown, Dope Head, Jessica Care Moore, and plenty more. His background covers music engineering, production, manufacturing, deejaying, and executive producing, which has put his name on projects all over the place.
Between 2010 and 2012 he recorded for Danny Brown while the MC was with Fool’s Gold Records, including work on the album “XXX” and other features from that period. He also produced, mixed, and recorded seven tracks on Dope Head’s album “Plaid Palm Trees,” including the lead single “Airbags.” In 2010 he founded Soul Touch Recordings to develop and brand his own sound while putting out high-quality music. Releases from the label include “Me and Marvin,” “Thanks Dilla,” “Jus Cakin,” and “The People Mover.”
In 2017 he partnered with 1xRun for a limited edition vinyl of “Space Bounce.” Not long after that he connected with techno pioneer Derrick May for “The Diamond Project Ep1” on Transmat Records. His career has taken him further afield too. In 2018 he played and did an artist residency in Cairo, Egypt, which led to the “Valley of Kings: Detroit to Cairo” project with Hizz Records. In 2019 he joined Derrick May on the “Hi Tek Soul” international tour. Even during the rough stretch of 2020 he kept things moving with three successful stream performances, including one for the Mocad Fundraiser alongside Derrick May and Juan Atkins, another for the Detroit/Chicago/Berlin/MusicXDesign stream, and a third for Movement Selects Vol.3.
