Some tracks never really leave the crate. They just wait for someone to open a window and let more air in. That is what happens on Only by Firelight – Ferhe Space Version, the late-August 2026 cut credited to Pablo Bolivar and FERHE on Halo To Vibe. The original Only by Firelight already lived in Bolivar’s world of patient, hypnotic techno. This Space Version treats it like a room you can walk around in: same fire, more sky.
If you have been following melodic techno and progressive house this year, you already know the mood. The bigger rooms still want emotion, but they also want a groove that can last six minutes without begging for a drop. Beatport’s mid-year picture still has house as the backbone and melodic house and techno pushing into larger spaces. This record sits right in that lane. It is atmosphere-led club music, not a festival punchline.
Pablo Bolivar is the veteran in the pairing, and the bio he sent is not marketing fluff. Born in Santander in 1981, he studied sound engineering at Barcelona’s Crash institute, graduated in 1998, and spent years as an engineer before the records started stacking. He worked at Decoder Muzique, then dropped his debut album Anjanas on Regular in 2006: eleven tracks of melodic, hypnotic techno that already moved between ambient passages and tougher club moments. Recall followed in 2009 on the same label. That one nodded to Heiko Laux, Kanzleramt and Chain Reaction, and it was also written in the shadow of his father’s death. That mix of craft and personal weight is still the shape of his catalogue.
Since then the Spaniard has released on Curle Recordings, Desolat, Culprit, Einmusika, Moodmusic and Endless, plus his own Seven Villas and Avantroots. Seven Villas takes its name from the villages of eastern Cantabria, the landscape he grew up in; the imprint is built for what he calls music you can live inside. He has remixed Gui Boratto, Mario Basanov, When Saints Go Machine, Gorge, Parov Stelar and Juana Molina. As a DJ he is known for blending his own cuts with crate finds and records from Floating Points, Soulphiction, I:Cube and Vakula. The original Only by Firelight first appeared in 2018 on Einmusika’s Unsurfaced and later on his 2022 Black Collection. It was already a selector’s track. This version is the same idea seen from further out.
FERHE is Fernando Herreros, a Madrid-based DJ and producer and founder of H2V, Halo To Vibe Records. His own note is short and useful: rooted in underground culture, he writes atmosphere-led, narrative club music across downtempo, organic house and deep progressive. Credits on the Space Version list both Pablo Bolivar and Fernando Herreros as composers. The Halo To Vibe release landed 28 August 2026 and runs just under six minutes. There is also a Revisited cut from earlier that month, so this is clearly a conversation, not a one-off stamp.
Musically, stay with what the genres tell you. Melodic techno here means long-form tension: pads that bloom slowly, a kick that stays functional, bass that rolls instead of shouting. Progressive house is the architecture: sections that evolve, percussion that adds detail instead of filling every gap, a sense that the track is travelling rather than looping the same eight bars. FERHE’s “space” tag fits. You hear more air around the original idea, more night-sky width, less need to prove the club in the first thirty seconds. If you like narrative deep progressive that still works after 2 a.m., this is the lane.
What I like is the relationship between the two names. Bolivar has more than a decade as an album artist, remixer and DJ with a very specific Spanish-German deep-techno lineage. FERHE is running a Madrid imprint aimed at that same patient, story-first club sound. Revisiting a 2018 Einmusika cut in 2026 is not nostalgia for its own sake. It is two Spanish producers agreeing that a good melody still deserves a longer night.
