Some synthwave wants you to floor it through a neon city. Tenebran’s “Just Chillin’” wants something quieter and, honestly, a little braver: sit still long enough for the feeling to catch up.
The French electronic artist has been building that space since 2021. First came the EP Blacklight, where he sketched the outline of his world. Then Dreamer arrived in 2022 and pushed further into the cinematic, introspective side of the genre. If you spend time in the synthwave corners of YouTube, you may already know the name. Tracks of his have landed on channels like Astral Throb, The 80’s Guy, and Space Ambient — the kind of playlists people put on when they want the 80s glow without the costume-party version of it.
“Just Chillin’” fits that lineage. You hear the signature immediately: aerial synthesizers with that very typical synthwave sheen, bass that actually has weight, and rhythms that hit hard even when the mood is supposed to be relaxed. The title promises downtime. The production does not slouch. That tension is the point. Tenebran has always oscillated between shadow and light, and this track lives in the afterglow — the moment after the storm when you are still a little raw, still a little hopeful, and not quite ready to turn the lights all the way up.
Born in 1982 in Lyon, Tenebran talks about his work as a sanctuary. Every melody, he says, reflects the heartbeat of a soul looking for meaning. That can sound lofty until you sit with the music. A lot of it is wallpaper. The records that stick are the ones that still feel handmade: analog-leaning synths, emotional bass, and a sense that the person behind the knobs meant it. Tenebran’s music is deep and striking at the same time. It shakes up the usual lane just enough that dreamers can escape without checking out.
