Kitty Coen’s Psycho From Texas: A Fever Dream of Toxic Romance and Southern Gothic Heat

Picture the headlights cutting through the dark, a motorcycle roaring toward the Marfa lights, and two people who know they should walk away but keep finding their way back. That late-night Texas fever dream is exactly where Kitty Coen’s new single “Psycho From Texas” lives, and it hits with the kind of pull that is hard to shake.

Released on October 23, 2026, via Trustfall Records—the new label from Vertigo Vinyl—“Psycho From Texas” opens the next chapter for the Nashville-based artist ahead of her forthcoming third album. Coen has described the song as being about that kind of love where neither person is really good for the other, but neither one can walk away. Obsessive, romantic, toxic, and insane, it aims to feel like a late-night Texas fever dream complete with Marfa lights, motorcycles, showgirls, and two people who probably should stay far away from each other but always find themselves back together.

The track sits in that space between dark pop, alt-pop, and alt-country, carrying the cinematic storytelling and Western glamour that have become Coen’s signature. It builds on the world she has already established across previous releases, blending the grit of alt-country with Southern gothic atmosphere and modern pop production edges. The result feels expansive and intimate at once, the kind of song that leans into the danger instead of smoothing it over.

Kitty Coen is a Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and visual artist originally from Texas. Born in Missouri and raised in Texas, she began performing in Austin in 2018 before relocating to Nashville to pursue music full-time. Her catalog includes the 2021 EP Disco Lemonade, the 2024 debut album ☆HELLCAT☆, and the 2025 album Conversations with the Moon. Across those projects she has carved out a sound she often frames as living somewhere between a saloon and a séance, mixing alt-country, Southern gothic, indie rock, and cinematic pop.

The last year has brought real live momentum. In April 2026 she completed her first headlining UK tour with multiple sold-out shows across England and Wales. She opened for Cage the Elephant and Dexter and the Moonrocks at CMA Fest, performed at Bonnaroo’s Outeroo, and joined ILUKA’s The Wings Tour for a U.S. run that took her through cities including Nashville, St. Louis, Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Denver. Signing to Trustfall Records pairs the creative identity she has built independently with the community of music fans and record collectors around Vertigo Vinyl. Additional singles are planned to follow “Psycho From Texas,” with the full third album tentatively slated for 2027. Visual artistry remains central to the rollout, along with music videos, short-form storytelling, and planned limited physical releases.

The broader landscape of alt-country and Southern gothic has been expanding as more artists fold Americana storytelling into darker, more cinematic production. Tracks that lean into toxic romance and restless Western imagery sit comfortably in that space, and “Psycho From Texas” arrives ready to claim its place in it. The signing also highlights how independent artists continue to find new homes with labels tied to passionate vinyl communities.
