Some songs get written; "Reeling," by the band's own account, had to be chased. The Dutch duo Velocity Made Good released it on October 16, 2026 as the second track on Big Breakers, the five-track EP that finally brings together a rollout we have followed since May.
A Track That Ran Ahead
Velocity Made Good usually take their time with songs, but "Reeling" came together quickly. "Where we usually take months on a song, this one came together in a few flow sessions with Josh," the band told Under the Radar. "It didn't feel like we were writing it, more like we were trying to keep up with it. Live, that still hasn't changed, we're still taming it."
Josh is producer Josh Baxter, who worked on the EP with the band. The band also says the track "doesn't follow any logical pop structure," and that matches the way it was made: in bursts, not in a slow series of revisions.
Five Tracks, One Wild Card
Big Breakers has been arriving piece by piece. The title track came out as the lead single on May 8, "Coming Up Threes" followed on July 3 and "One Night in Between" on August 28. We reviewed the first two when they came out. With the full EP on October 16 came "Reeling" and the closer, "R You Ready 2 Jack (VMG Rework)," credited to Velocity Made Good and Credit 00.
Beatport's data adds an interesting detail. It lists "Reeling" at 98 BPM, while "Big Breakers" sits at 135 BPM and the two other singles at 128. On paper, the track that came together fastest is slower than any of the earlier singles. At 4:28, it is also one of the longer songs on the record.
What the First Reviews Say
Under the Radar premiered the EP and called "Reeling" the record's standout moment. The magazine heard the band "descending into unrestrained synth punk abandon," with vocals that move between monotone speak-singing and yelping howls, and compared the energy to the art punk of Lip Critic. In its view, this is the band at its least restrained.
The same premiere notes that, since their debut EP, the duo has leaned further into the rock side of its sound, running analog synths through amps in the studio, adding more live drums and pushing the volume to distorted heights.
Out on Vinyl Too
The digital EP is out on KERNCENTRALE, and a vinyl edition of Big Breakers on Zeevonk Records is listed for October 23, 2026 at Dutch record stores. The cover art shows a man in a white jumpsuit standing next to a shaggy black creature with glowing eyes, with a yellow glitch pattern in the corner.
Final Thoughts
"Reeling" closes the long build-up to Big Breakers with the track the band says it is still learning to control. If you have followed the singles since May, this is the piece that completes the picture. Beatport lists "Reeling" at 98 BPM, far below the 128 to 135 BPM of the earlier singles; does it feel that slow to you? Tell us in the comments.
A Tip for Independent Artists
Velocity Made Good spread three singles over five months before the EP arrived, which gave each song its own moment and kept people waiting for the rest.
