Loopsy Dazy Takes 2023 By Storm with a Groundbreaking Promo Mini Set

Loopsy Dazy, the Colorado-born, Kyoto-raised electronic-acoustic hybrid project masterminded by Mikey Dorje, has just released a captivating and innovative Winter 2023 Promo Mini Set. The live one-take studio recording, titled "Bird's Eve View Studio Session," showcases the Montreal-based artist's unparalleled prowess in live-looping and real-time manipulation, delivering a mesmerizing blend of analogue synth, beats, and acoustic guitar.

The mini set is an astounding feat of musicianship, with Loopsy Dazy utilizing a highly customized Ableton Live rig to loop, layer, twist, chop, and hyper-modulate the entire performance. He achieves this without using any pre-made audio samples, bed tracks, midi files, synth sequences, or drum machine patterns. In fact, the Ableton template consists of 20 tracks, 101 plugins, and zero clips, effectively transforming Ableton into an insanely powerful effects processor, live looper, and mixer.

Using a combination of guitar, Korg Monologue, and Volca Beats, Loopsy Dazy crafts an intricate sonic landscape. The guitar, in conjunction with a bunch of Max for Live devices, triggers the notation and parameters of the Monologue, while the guitar signal is simultaneously run through the synth's filters, envelopes, and LFOs. The Volca Beats are generated by M4L devices and live-tweaked with the MIDI Fighter Twister, with the guitar and loops manipulating the complexity of the patterns. Over 75 parameters are tweaked by Envelope Follower, LFO, and Shaper devices, while Mikey Dorje personally controls at least 100 parameters via the controller directly for other effects, along with a foot controller.

Since its inception in 2011, Loopsy Dazy has become a staple in Toronto’s underground electronic community, eventually relocating to Montreal in 2018. The project is often accompanied by an evolving roster of vocalists and musicians, including live drums, violin, and bass, and has performed at various events and festivals such as Nova Scotia’s Evolve Festival, Ontario's Harvest Festival, and Toronto's Promise Cherry Beach.

Loopsy Dazy's discography boasts two singles, a 2019 LP titled "Estuary," numerous remixes, an official remix of "The Ghost in You" by Grammy-nominated electronic music legend BT, and an official remix of "You Changed My Life" by Austra for a 2014 Juno Awards video presentation by FACTOR. In addition, Mikey Dorje composed the original soundtrack for the documentary "When The Iron Bird Flies" and has had his music used by Toronto Fashion Week and other productions.

With the release of the Winter 2023 Promo Mini Set, Loopsy Dazy continues to push the boundaries of live electronic music, proving once again that innovation and creativity know no limits. Be sure to keep an eye on this groundbreaking artist as he continues to redefine the electronic music landscape.
