UK Garage never really left. It just got sharper, heavier, and a lot more interesting. Right now the NUKG wave is pulling in bassline, speed garage and dubstep influences and turning them into something that hits harder than the classic stuff while still keeping that unmistakable swing. One of the names pushing that sound forward is GBSN, and his latest track MUCHACHO is a solid example of where the scene is heading.
Born in Newcastle and now based in Leeds, the 21-year-old producer has been building steadily since he first got into production in 2017. He started out on bass house and brostep before locking into the UK Garage lane and carving out his own lane. You can hear the influence of artists like MPH, Oppidan, Gemi and Bakey in the way he layers rolling bass, tight drums and those low-end drops that make NUKG stand out. MUCHACHO sits right in that pocket – the kind of track that feels built for both the club and late-night headphones.
GBSN has already been getting proper support. His music has been played on Kiss FM, NuVolve and Rinse FM, and he’s landed releases on Wang Records and NUCRU with more on the way. Live, he’s been supporting heavy hitters including Sammy Virji, Bou and DJ Q, and has played sets for events like Profound Sound, Dazed, Invicta Audio, Worried About Henry, plus Loosefest twice. That’s a strong run for someone still this early in the game, and it shows the underground is paying attention.
What stands out about GBSN is that he’s not chasing the biggest possible crossover sound. He’s staying true to the mix of speed garage, bassline and dubstep that defines his style, while the wider UK Garage revival slowly pulls more listeners in. The result is music that still feels rooted in the underground but has clear potential to travel further. MUCHACHO is another step in that direction – confident, well-produced, and clearly aimed at the dancefloor.
