Some dance tracks start with a groove. "Shimmer" started with a decision. DJ Manifesto wrote it during what he calls one of the darkest periods of his life, and turned that moment into a UK garage single with a stutter house pulse. Foundry Sounds released it on October 16, 2026.
Choosing to Shine Once More
The story behind "Shimmer" is right there in the title. DJ Manifesto decided to try harder than he ever had before, or, as he puts it, "to shimmer one last time." The track is about finding that final spark when it feels like it's gone, and choosing to keep moving anyway. He says it means more to him than almost anything else he has created.
"Shimmer" is an instrumental, so there are no lyrics to spell that story out. It runs a little over four minutes, and the message has to come through in the mood and movement of the track itself. We like that it trusts the music to do that work.
From Turntables at 11 to 1,500 Shows
DJ Manifesto picked up his first violin at age five and got his first set of turntables at 11, when his local YMCA asked him to DJ an event. He later took over his father's recording studio and started producing. Discovering Tiësto through Napster around the turn of the millennium pulled him deeper into dance music, and he played Tiësto, Paul Oakenfold and other early influences on the radio at a time when most DJs stuck to hip-hop and top 40.
In 2008, encouraged by his mother, he first combined live violin and electronic music at a Halloween show. That blend of violin and bass-driven, melodic electronic music became the core of his live shows. He has played more than 1,500 shows, sharing stages with Paul van Dyk, Nadia Ali and Victor Calderone, and spent time as half of the duo Rome Will Burn, which passed a million Spotify plays and led to work with Randy Jackson and composer David Campbell.
Foundry Sounds and the UK Garage Connection
"Shimmer" lands on Foundry Sounds, a label that calls itself "a global melting pot for the UK sound." Beatport files "Shimmer" under UK Garage / Bassline, and the track brings together UK garage, future garage and the clipped, chopped rhythms of stutter house. Stutter house takes the swing of garage and adds edits that cut and repeat pieces of the sound, which gives a track a restless, flickering energy. It's a natural style for a song called "Shimmer," and the title sits comfortably next to others in his catalog, like "Stardust", "Solar Sails" and "Mercury".
Final Thoughts
"Shimmer" carries a heavier story than its tempo suggests. DJ Manifesto turned one of his hardest moments into a reason to keep going, and that gives this single real weight. Has a song ever helped you push through a tough stretch? Tell us in the comments.
