DruiZ "Racatapunchispun" Review: Frogs, Street Vendors and Global Bass

0

Most people celebrate a birthday with cake. DruiZ celebrated with a release. "Racatapunchispun" came out on October 9, 2026, as a birthday present the artist made for the occasion, and it's built from sounds collected over years: street vendors, frogs and other small sonic gems recorded in Colombia.

The Musician Behind DruiZ

DruiZ is the project of a multi-instrumentalist, drummer and percussionist born in Bogotá, Colombia, who moved to Vancouver in 2005, studied at the Vancouver Community College School of Music and has played with a wide range of acts in the Vancouver and Bogotá scenes, from indie rock to world music. The DruiZ approach starts with improvised loops and a mix of electronic and acoustic instruments, so that every performance turns out a little different.

The catalog goes back to 2021, when "Dime" with Mattea Made marked the project's first attempt at producing and mixing. Since then have come singles like "Magia Selvatica" and "Coraza", the 2023 EP Recordatorio I and, earlier this year, "Starseeds".

A Sound Diary From Colombia

What sets "Racatapunchispun" apart is its raw material. DruiZ gathered these recordings over years and finally pieced them together for a birthday release, so the sounds of street vendors and frogs share space with played instruments. The credits list synthesizer, drum machine and drums from DruiZ, plus bass and percussion from guest players. It's an instrumental of just over three minutes, and DruiZ describes it as "this new sonic experiment." To us, even the title sounds like a rhythm waiting to happen.

That fits the way DruiZ has always worked. Improvised loops, spontaneous ideas and a mix of acoustic and electronic sounds are at the core of the project, and a track built from years of everyday recordings takes that spontaneity one step further. The sounds weren't made for a song; they were found, saved and given a new life.

Where Global Bass Gets Experimental

DruiZ places the track in global bass and experimental electronic music, with a mood that's energetic, epic and experimental. Global bass pulls rhythms and sounds from around the world into a club context, while the experimental side leaves room for things you rarely hear in dance music. Field recordings do something special here: they tie the music to a real place and a real time. In this case that place is Colombia, where the story of DruiZ began.

Final Thoughts

"Racatapunchispun" feels like opening a box of memories and turning them into rhythm. We love the idea of a birthday release built from years of collected sounds. If you could record one everyday sound from your hometown and build a track around it, what would it be? Tell us in the comments.
