Favilla "Temple of Grace" Review: Afro House With a Jungle Edge

Some producers treat genre borders as suggestions. Favilla is one of them. "Temple of Grace" is out now on Möonbabe Records, and it's an energetic, moody and experimental mix of Afro house and global bass with a jungle edge.

Who Is Favilla?

Favilla is a producer whose original tracks combine instruments and rhythm styles from across the world, drawing on cultures, genres and languages from Senegal, Yemen, China, America, Japan, India and the UK. At its core, the sound is lo-fi hip hop, glitchy boom bap and Afrobeat rhythm sections, with emotive breakdowns along the way.

The idea behind Favilla is to make music that doesn't stick to the usual boundaries of genre or culture, while always respecting where each element comes from. Her 2022 album Human Kind celebrates human culture as one, with all its diverse expressions from around the world.

Live With Ableton and Old School Flavors

Favilla is just as much about the live show. She builds each track on stage using Ableton and a Push to fire off her samples, playing sets full of old school flavors. Lately she has been branching out into drum and bass and jungle, and she is connected to the Bristol scene, having collaborated with well-known producers from Bristol's music scene.

Favilla's "Temple of Grace"

"Temple of Grace" was released on September 29, 2026, and it's a journey of the heart and the body. Running a little over four minutes, it mixes world music and Afrobeat with touches of drum and bass and jungle, and it carries the same mission as the rest of Favilla's catalog: unifying instruments, vocalists, languages and cultures. The title suggests a place of calm, which makes an interesting contrast with the high energy underneath.

Afro House, Jungle and the Bristol Connection

Bristol has been one of the most important homes for drum and bass and jungle since the 1990s, with a scene that has always blended bass-heavy rhythms with soul, reggae and global influences. Afro house brings its own deep percussive tradition into the mix. Through her collaborations with Bristol producers, Favilla taps into that heritage while keeping Afrobeat and global rhythms at the center. Put them together and you get music that works for both the heart and the feet.
