Karla Amaro & Bass Hyte "Police Man" Review: Minimal Tech House Heat

0

Minimal house is all about letting every little element earn its spot, and that's the world "Police Man" by Karla Amaro and Bass Hyte lives in. Released on February 7, 2025, on streetwalls, it closes their four-track Energy EP and lands somewhere between tech house and minimal house, with a mood that's sexy, energetic and happy all at once.

Who Is Karla Amaro?

Karla Amaro is a Barcelona-based DJ and producer. Venezuelan by birth, she later lived in Chile, where club residencies in Santiago shaped her early productions. Her sound moves between house and minimal, sometimes with deeper techno touches, and always with Latin rhythms underneath. As Karla Amaro puts it, the music is "Latin Fire, Global Future." Her first major release came in 2023 with "Not A Speech" on Insignificant Location Recordings.

Who Is Bass Hyte?

Bass Hyte is a DJ and producer from Curicó, Chile, with a background in sound engineering. The DJ career took off in 2017 at events by Pinar Colectivo, C-Bass Producciones and other promoters, and the production side followed with EPs on Coquimbo Music Label, the single "Way Home" with MCR Collective in Manchester and the Focus EP on Colombian label Not So Serious. The Bass Hyte sound leans on solid basslines, Latin percussion and energetic synths, a good match for Karla Amaro's grooves.

Karla Amaro & Bass Hyte's "Police Man": Closing the Energy EP

"Police Man" runs just over six minutes, a length that gives DJs room to mix in and out. The sexy, energetic, happy mood makes it a natural fit for the warmer, more playful part of a night. The Energy EP around it also includes the title track, "Today's Bet" and "Makes Me", and the pair have kept working together since, with releases like "Radio on Fire" and the El Telefono EP.

Where Tech House Meets Minimal

Minimal house strips the groove back to the essentials, while tech house adds punch and swing for the dancefloor. "Police Man" sits right where the two meet. Add the Latin rhythms both artists are known for, and you have a pairing that makes a lot of sense.
