Queen Anne "GREYHOUND" Review: Vulnerable Indie Pop That Runs Fast

0

Ever scanned a crowded party for someone who has clearly forgotten you're even there? Queen Anne turns that sinking feeling into "GREYHOUND", a propulsive, guitar-driven indie pop single that sounds a lot brighter than the story behind it. It's out now via Landing Music, and it's easily the most vulnerable thing the LA duo has released so far.

Who Is Queen Anne?

Queen Anne is an American indie pop duo based in Los Angeles, forging a bold musical identity at the intersection of dark, ethereal pop and an '80s-inflected postmodern edge. At its core are lead singer and songwriter Katie Silverman and veteran writer and producer Sandy Chila. "GREYHOUND" is already the pair's sixth single this year.

If Katie Silverman looks familiar, that's because she's also an actress, with roles in New Girl, PEN15 and ABC's High Potential, plus the feature film The Exorcists. In 2027 she's set to appear in the film Play The Edge. Music gives her another way to tell stories, and it shows in how character-driven the songs are.

The duo's journey started with the debut single "Real Enough", which got attention for its witty, character-driven storytelling and catchy hooks, turning everyday frustrations into sharp, playful songs. A haunting reinterpretation of David Bowie's "Let's Dance" followed and won praise from critics for peeling the classic back to its emotional core, starting with a brooding acoustic opening and building into an expansive, cinematic soundscape.

A Song About Love, Disconnection and a Very Fast Dog

Katie calls "GREYHOUND" her most vulnerable song yet. It's about looking around a party for someone who's forgotten you're there, and about being in love with someone you don't respect. And then, in true Queen Anne style, it's also about an actual dog: "a dog that can sprint 45 miles an hour. i mean, think about that. they're so calm and affectionate, and then, just, off they go."

That mix of heartbreak and quirky detail is what makes the track work. The greyhound is a perfect image for someone who seems calm and close one moment and is gone the next. Loving someone you don't respect is the kind of honest admission most of us would rather keep to ourselves, and the song says it out loud.

The Sound: Propulsive and Guitar-Led

Musically, "GREYHOUND" is rhythmic and built around electric guitar, with the emotionally tender lyricism and catchy rock sound the duo is known for. It's a track that demands movement, even while it's telling you something painful. The pair mixed and produced it themselves, and mastering was handled by Matthew Gray. At just under three minutes, it doesn't waste a second.

What's Next for Queen Anne?

Queen Anne showed up on several 2026 "Bands To Watch" lists, including Earmilk, 1883 and Galore, and picked up radio support from KROQ Locals Only, 91X and SoCal Sound. The duo has a summer tour booked and plans to release an EP in summer 2027, so "GREYHOUND" feels like another strong step on the way there.

A Tip for Independent Artists

Queen Anne produces and mixes every track in-house, a great example of how much artists can do themselves these days.
