There is a particular kind of quiet that shows up right after a relationship ends. Not the dramatic argument, not the playlist of rage songs, just the moment you look at a name on your phone and have to decide whether you are going to answer. YASMINA KAÏNA built her debut EP around that feeling, and she starts it with a question: would you pick up?
would you pick up? (INTRO) is the instep into BITTERSWEET, out 25 September 2026 on OUCHRIF RECORDS. The project runs an intro, four songs, and an outro, and the idea is simple in the way honest writing usually is. These tracks move through the different stages of grief after a failed relationship. Love, she says, is never just good or bad. It is bittersweet.
That framing matters. A lot of breakup music still picks a side. Anger, or longing, or the clean “I am better off” ending. BITTERSWEET is set up as a sequence instead of a verdict. An intro titled like a missed call is a smart way in. It does not explain the whole story. It drops you at the threshold, which is exactly where an opening track should live. The credits list Mozard The Producerr as producer and vocal producer, with Marvin S on mixing and mastering. Distribution runs through The Orchard. On SoundCloud the track is tagged Latin Music, which sits next to a catalog that has already moved through confessionals rather than club formulas.
YASMINA writes from a house that already sounded like a record collection. Her mother is a guitarist. Her father played Amazigh drums, the North African percussion tradition she names directly. Family is spread across the world, and she treats that mix of Scandinavian and African roots as the metaphor in the music itself: a mixed child, heard in the songs rather than explained in a press line. She has said the writing is therapy, and that she hopes listeners find comfort or relatability in it. That is a modest aim, and it fits an EP built on stages of grief instead of a single punchline.
The road to this release was not a straight independent origin story. After what she describes as a thousand studio sessions with different producers, managers, industry people, and several record labels, she found her own voice, put a team together, and decided to release independently. The catalog already shows that patience. Forget, her debut single from 5 August 2022, is about the ungrateful boyfriend who lets other girls pull his attention away from the queen he already has. Fallacy, 2BUSY 4U, and LAST TIME followed in 2023. FRENEMY arrived in 2024. why landed on 4 September 2026, just ahead of the EP. BITTERSWEET reads like the project those singles were walking toward.
Latin-tagged emotional pop is having a useful moment for artists who do not want to flatten a story into one mood. Listeners keep reaching for records that can hold regret and relief in the same breath, the same way Madison Beer’s Bittersweet became a shorthand for mixed feelings after a split, and the same way indie breakup writing keeps favoring the messy middle over the tidy ending. YASMINA’s version is more personal than trend-chasing. The title of the intro does the work. Would you pick up is not a hook built for a dance challenge. It is the question people actually ask themselves at 1 a.m.
If you are an artist trying to get a project like this onto major platforms without handing the whole release to someone else’s timeline, DistroKid makes distribution straightforward, and you can take 7% off your membership here: https://distrokid.com/vip/seven/2058328. It is a practical way to reach more listeners and keep more of what the music earns.
