LVST NIGHT Brings Gritty 2010s Bounce Back on LOWDOWN

Bass house got a little too polite. Charts filled up with the same polished drops, the same safe bounce, the same “Top 100” sheen that sounds huge on a festival livestream and a bit hollow when you actually want the floor to wobble. Auckland producer LVST NIGHT clearly felt that itch. LOWDOWN is his answer: a deliberately nasty, bouncy bass house cut that looks back at 2014–2020 and asks what the genre was supposed to feel like in the first place.

That mid-to-late 2010s window still lives rent-free in a lot of heads. Think warped, rubbery low-end, cheeky swing, and records that hit more like a shove than a handshake. Names like Jauz, AC Slater, Joyryde and the Night Bass wave made bass house feel mischievous. In 2026, house is still eating the charts, but a lot of the current bass house lane has been sanded down. LVST NIGHT says he got sick of that version and wrote LOWDOWN as a reminder. Fair.

He keeps the pitch simple. It is a very bouncy track with classic bass house energy, and New Zealand radio has already been on it. You do not need a thesis to get it. The idea is physical: grit in the bass, bounce in the groove, attitude instead of polish. If you grew up on those club cuts that made a packed room look slightly unwell in the best way, this is aimed at you.

LVST NIGHT is based in Auckland and calls himself a house DJ and producer who is “just vibing.” The official bio is more useful than the joke. His sound pulls from earlier lives in trap, hip-hop, rock, metal, classical and pop, then funnels that into house. That mix matters here. Bass house always worked best when it felt a little dirty and a little hybrid, not like a preset pack with a kick drum on top.

He has already put in the unglamorous work that actually moves a local scene. Multiple features on George FM, New Zealand’s number one electronic station, plus support from DJs and producers outside the country. Live, he has opened for Acraze, AYYBO, Body Ocean, Cam Stockman, Dave Winnel, Marten Horger and Ship Wrek. That last one even has a full support set online. This is not a first-upload story. LOWDOWN sits in a run of club singles, many of them out on Decypher, that already includes cuts like FLOW, COLD PLANS, OUT OF CONTROL, FOOTWORK and BOOM DEE BOOM.

The timing is not accidental either. Dance and electronic streaming is up, house family records still dominate a huge slice of the Beatport picture, and a lot of 2026 club culture is looking back at the mid-2010s without doing full costume-party nostalgia. LOWDOWN is more specific than “old EDM was fun.” It is a bass house record arguing for the nasty, bouncy version of the genre before it got algorithm-friendly. That is a sharper brief than most revival talk.

If you only know LVST NIGHT from radio or a support slot, start here. Play it loud. See whether the low end still does that slightly unhinged bounce people used to build whole nights around. Then tell me if this is the bass house you missed or if the cleaner chart version already won.

What do you think of this artist’s sound? Does LOWDOWN scratch that 2014–2020 itch, or are you fully living in the new polish? Drop it in the comments.

Independent artists who want that same reach still have to get the file onto Spotify, Apple Music, Beatport and the rest without lighting their budget on fire.
